Frequently Asked Questions

Why Test and Tag?

The Occupational Health and Safety Act places a duty of care to provide a safe workplace.  Failure to maintain electrical equipment in a safe condition or to use equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions may result in injury or death to you, employees or other parties.  To meet the duty of care it is necessary to ensure that risk of injury from electric shock for all people at the workplace is reduced as far as is reasonably practicable.  A method of achieving this duty is by testing and tagging electrical equipment and implementing procedures for use of electrical equipment.

Remember - We can’t see smell or hear electricity. We all have a duty of care to make our workplaces as safe as possible.

  • RCDs don’t offer any safety guarantee
  • Increased staff confidence in safety procedures
  • Safe working environment
  • No penalties or increased insurance levies
  • Testing and tagging is mandatory in all work places
  • Complete electrical asset register once testing is completed

Every employer and employee has a duty to maintain a safe working environment. Please don’t use items that are not tested and tagged - let’s keep our Australian industries strong and safe!

Call 1300 855 620 we can make your workplace safety compliant.

Do we have to test?

The Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (OSH Act) and Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 require electrical equipment at workplaces to be safe and not expose workers to hazards.

As prescribed by the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 and Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995  the person having control of a workplace or access to that work place, i.e. employer, self-employed person, main contractor, must ensure that all portable plug-in electrical equipment and residual current devices (RCDs) at the workplace are safe and appropriately inspected, tested and maintained by a competent person.

How much will it cost?

Costs will be based on the amount of equipment to be tested and the environment and location that we are testing in (metro, country or regional). Please call us to discuss your specific requirements.

Do I have to switch my equipment off?

To perform a full electrical test yes we need to turn equipment off. This should only take a few minutes per item. Our experienced operators try to work with as little disruption as possible. In extreme cases we understand that some items cannot be turned off  - in that scenario a thorough visual is performed and notes added to the report as to why a visual was done.

How often do we have to test?

Testing time frames vary within different industries depending on what the equipment is and the environment that the equipment is used. Australian Standards AS/NZS 3760:2010   contain a guide to testing and tagging time frames, however a risk assessment must be made to determine exact time frames. See Table Attached:
